Nettleham Ladies, soon to be rebranded as Lincoln City Women, are in action tonight as they take on Long Eaton in their penultimate game of the season.

The Netts are coming to the end of their first season in the Women’s National League Midlands Division, after earning promotion from the East Midlands League last year. They’re currently in the process of transitioning from Nettleham to Lincoln Women, a move that has been met with widespread positivity.

Radio Lincolnshire are set to cover tonight’s game, their first live broadcast covering the girls. They moved above Long Eaton in the table at the weekend, on the back of a fine 3-0 victory against Burton Albion. They’re now sixth in an eleven team league, with aspirations of overhauling Sporting Khalsa in fifth for what would be a fine finish to their maiden season at this level.

Long Eaton have beaten the Netts twice this season, once in the league at Mulsanne Park and again in the FA Cup. The league encounter finished 2-1, but the FA Cup game brought heartbreak. After making the second round last year, where third-tier Liverpool Feds beat them after a spirited display, they were cruelly eliminated 3-2 against tonight’s opponents.

They led 2-1 going into the final minutes of the game, but saw the lead overturned in heart-breaking style.

The Netts go into the game on a high, not only thanks to last week’s announcement, but also their 3-0 win against Burton. That came in their penultimate league game at Mulsanne Park, with just second-placed Wolves left to visit.

Ella Thompson-Moulding gave the home side an advantage in the first half after a howler from the opposing keeper, before Heather Pettit and Olivia Leslie added second half goals to round off the rout.
