Imps up for two awards this month but not favourites for either

Two members of table-topping Lincoln City’s staff have been nominated for awards this month, with more set to follow later in the week.

Defender Neal Eardley is one of four players on the list for Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month. This is the first of two awards given to players, the second being the PFA award which Bruno won last month.

In addition to Neal’s nomination, Danny Cowley has also been chosen as a possible Manager of the Month.

City played six matches in March, winning four and drawing two. One of those draws came during the televised game against Mansfield Town, whilst the only real blot on the landscape came in the 1-1 stalemate with Macclesfield.

Neal has a couple of assists to his name last month, one against Crawley and another as we beat Forest Green in the opening fixture of March. It seems a long way away now, but it was certainly the month in which we underlined our promotion credentials.

He also helped keep three clean sheets and rounded the month off with a stunning free kick to earn us a draw against the Silkmen.

Us pulling away at the top has to favour Danny too, who is up against Port Vale’s John Askey, Mickey Mellon of Tranmere and Paul Tisdale of MK Dons. Oddly, Tisdale lost one and won four of his March matches, but the recent win won’t be counted as it came in April. Askey won three of six whilst Mellon, the biggest threat to Danny for the award, won five of five but has subsequently lost two on the spin.

Neal is up against Reece Brown (Forest Green Rovers), James Norwood (Tranmere Rovers) and Kaiyne Woolery (Swindon Town). Norwood, with five goals in five matches, is another likely winner for Tranmere.

Despite their great form, they’re now four points outside the top three with five matches remaining, whilst we’re 11 clear at the top.
