League One Round-up: Sunderland, Burton Albion, Oxford & Fleetwood

This is going to be a new feature, when time allows.

As we’re now League One, I thought it might be useful for me to pull together four or five of the main stories from the day and put them here for you, with links to the full story where applicable.

I know not everyone has the time to watch newsnow all day, nor peruse the different websites, so we’ll see how this goes. If you don’t like it, I’ll drop it like it’s hot, or even like it’s Ollie Palmer.

It’s also a chance to direct you to a few of the bits I cover on FLW, for which I am now the main League One and League Two pundit.

Burton Albion hunt Highland League star

Burton Albion have taken Jevani Anderson on trial from Highland League side Formartine, with a view to a one-year deal, reports The Real EFL.

The 19-year-old is the son of former Aberdeen captain Russell and is on his second spell with the Brewers, having trialled earlier in the year.

Burton have recently had a major hand to play in the League One promotion race, beating Barnsley and Luton, as well as drawing with Sunderland.

Rob Hall eyes extended Oxford stay

Defender Rob Hall has voiced a desire to remain with Oxford United beyond the end of his current contract, as reported by Football League World.

The talented centre back has appeared just three times this season after suffering injury, but he returned at the weekend and now wants to remain at the Kassam.

Hall is a former West ham graduate and a popular figure for Karl Robinson’s side.

Joey Barton stokes Sunderland fire

Joey Barton has referred to his Newcastle United time in a bid to unsettle Sunderland ahead of tonight’s crucial promotion match.

The Black Cats needs a win to keep their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive, but former Magpie Barton is keen to see them go home with ‘tears in their eyes’, as reported by Football League World.

Sunderland youngster yet to commit to club

Sunderland’s Elliott Embleton, winner of the PFA Player of the Month for December in League Two, has yet to commit his future to the club according to the Grimsby Telegraph.

He’s currently on loan at Grimsby Town and looks likely to decide his future upon completion of his loan this Saturday.

Embleton has impressed for the Mariners and it’s thought he could be open to a permanent switch, should the chance arise.
