It was only a week or so ago I recall getting a text saying something like ‘all quiet at Sincil Bank’.
Whilst it has remained so in terms of anything official, we’ve been linked with numerous players over the last few days. one can’t help but think some of those links are little more than speculation from agents, whereas others might have some gravity.
Tomorrow, if I get time, I shall be doing a piece on all the ‘links’ so far this summer, with my impression of how realistic they are and where that player might fit in.
Right now it’s time for another round-up of what’s been happening, or what media say might be happening, across League One. Let’s start with talk of a £3m defender leaving one of our rivals and go down from there.
Matt Clarke to Brighton for £3m
That’s the level we’re at; the top teams are in a position to sell their best players for £3m. It’s a top-heavy division with lots of high-value players in the top six, but a very even playing field outside of the elite.
Matt Clarke is a talented centre back currently on the books of Portsmouth. Last season he was widely regarded as the best player in his position outside of the top two divisions. The train of thought is he might have liked to be inside the top two divisions and as Pompey are not, he’s off.
It’s a Premier League side with the first shots, Brighton allegedly putting in a bid of £3m for him.
That’s serious money and should Pompey get that sort of cash coming in, they might be keen to spend it on one of our players *ahem* Bruno.
Gary Mackay-Steven set for Portsmouth
Okay, maybe they won’t be signing Bruno. Mackay-Steven is a winger who has played for Celtic in the past. He’s most recently been with Aberdeen in the SPFL, but is poised to make a 580 miles switch south to link up with Kenny Jackett at Fratton Park.
He’s played for Scotland, albeit just twice six years ago, and is a three-time SPFL winner with Celtic, although he only made 46 league appearances over the course of three seasons there.
He’s also played for Dundee United and Airdrie and spent time with both Fulham and Liverpool in his youth.
Daniel Adshead subject of £300,000 bid
Who? Rochdale’s Daniel Adshead. You’ve heard of him, right?
Well, you might not have, but a lot of clubs have. He’s a midfielder who has attracted the interest of the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Man City and Manchester United, but it’s Norwich City who have made the first move.
Adshead became Rochdale’s youngest ever debutant when he made his debut in the 2017/18 season and has since been capped by England at Under 18 level.
You might not have heard of him now, but there is a good chance you will in the future.
