Brian Jackson: Former Liverpool midfielder dies aged 86 | London Evening Standard

This article started life as ‘five connections’, but after being contacted by a reader it was boosted up to six. My research had omitted to mention Brina Jackson, another player with ties to both clubs.

The Surrey-born outside-right started his career with Arsenal, and was proudly in reserve for the Gunners as they met Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. He moved to Leyton Orient, then to Anfield in November 1951. He made 133 appearances for the Reds during a six-and-a-half-year stint on Merseyside, which started as an 18-year-old. He appeared against the Imps on a number of occasions for Liverpool, as well as playing against Barcelona and Real Madrid, before moving to Fourth Division Port Vale in July 1958, where he played 178 games, scoring 34 goals. He later moved to Peterborough United in July 1962 before joining us in 1964/65 for ten games, where he scored once, in a 3-2 defeat against Halifax Town at the Bank, He was briefly captain in a dire period in the Imps’ history, replacing Bud Houghton on his arrival.

He settled in the city following his retirement and had a vacuum cleaner sales and repair shop near the corner of Scorer Street and the High Street, as well as working as a gardener. He sadly passed away in March this year, aged 86.
