Alternative Kit World Cup – Qualifying

As promised, I’m kicking off the Alternative Kit World Cup today, looking to find the ultimate away or third kit from history.

I’ve done my best not to miss any out, but have gone back as far as 1980 to the present day. That’s around 39 kits (taking out kits that were the same but with different sponsors) to whittle down to your favourite.

We’ve kicked off today with three qualifying groups, looking to get down to 32 for the World Cu proper. Without further ado, here are the four groups, with links to vote on Twitter and, if you don’t do Twitter, a voting section on here too. Thanks to https://footballshirthistory.weebly.com/ for most of the images.

Make sure you click ‘vote’ after making your selection for your choice to count.

First up, four relatively recent kits. Kit A was the third shirt in 2006/07, playing on the Lincoln green which seems popular throughout the ages. Kit B was our away kit in the awful 2012/13 season, but certainly has a stylish feel (as did the home kit that season). Kit C was our third kit in the year of John Schofield’s sacking, and probably won’t be remembered as a classic, whilst the final kit is the incredibly attractive third shirt from last season, which was a limited run and sold out very quickly.

Two green kits here, the first of which was our away shirt in the successful 2016/17 campaign. Shirt B, a personal favourite of mine, was the same two years in a row, but had a change of sponsor and featured a nice woven pattern in the material. Shirt C is a classic, the away from 81-83 and perhaps an outsider to go a long way in this vote. Finally, the 95-96 shirt finishes off the group, the shirt we wore the day we were pumped 7-1 by Bury (or Colchester, can’t recall which).

Qualifying Group C

  • C (21%, 40 Votes)

An interesting assortment to bring this 24-hour vote to a close. Our first grey away shirt debuted in 2009/10 and as I recall, it went down well. Shirt B is another retro classic, a deep blue with white pinstripe from 85-87, a not-so-classic time on the field. Shirt C is a rarity, an oddity if you like, in being our only alternative shirt to be red. Finally, the 11-12 away kit, worn on the opening day of our first ever BSP season, one of two ‘Celtic’ designs we have used in the past.

We need FIVE qualifiers from these groups, so the top in each group will go forward to the final, as well as two of the best scoring runner up shirts. Enjoy!
