Winger Theo Archibald was first linked with a move to the Imps in March 2020, not long after football was suspended because of Covid-19. He eventually sealed a deal in August, after finding himself released by crisis-club Macclesfield Town. He was believed to be a little behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness and has been used sparingly in League One. He made his debut as a last-minute substitute in our 2-1 victory at MK Dons back in September.

He made his first start for the club in the second fixture of our EFL Trophy group, scoring as we won 3-1 at Mansfield Town. He also started our final group game against Manchester City Under 21s, and both FA Cup matches, impressing as we beat Forest Green 6-2. He picked up an injury in December, playing for a couple of minutes as we beat Wigan 2-1 but missing the festive period and all of January.

On July 29, 2021, he joined Leyton Orient on a season-long loan deal.

Theo started his career with Scottish giants Celtic, making numerous appearances for their youth setup and featured in the UEFA Youth League. He had a loan spell with Albion Rovers, making his professional debut against Alloa Athletic in Scottish League One, on the same day City beat Brighton in the FA Cup. He went on to make 11 starts for Albion, playing 14 times in total, before heading back to Celtic Park.

His return to the Hoops was only temporary, and he was soon heading south to join Brentford on a permanent deal in August 2017. He made three appearances early into his spell with The Bees, two from the bench in the Championship and a full start in English football in the EFL Cup against Norwich. He started off in style for the Bees impressing so much that he was called up to make his Scotland Under 21 debut, coming on as a substitute against Holland and helping them to a 2-1 win.

He then had a loan spell with Forest Green, appearing against the Imps in November 2018. He appeared 21 times for Mark Cooper’s side, scoring once, but only starting four League Two fixtures before returning to Brentford. He departed Griffin Park the following summer, joining Sol Campbell’s Macclesfield Town, where he featured 33 times, scoring six goals in the process. He chose not to remain at Macclesfield at the end of the 2019/20 season as their troubles grew, signing for the Imps before the 20/21 campaign.

“There’s been an extended wait with everything that’s going on in the world but I’m absolutely delighted to be here now.” Theo said on his arrival. “It’s exciting, there’s a lot of young players in the squad. When I spoke to the gaffer and when I spoke to Jez, there was a plan for me. It felt like they wanted me and had a plan for me and for a young player that’s exactly what you want.
