Cambridge-born Bishop first appeared for local team Whittlesford Warriors, but joined the Ipswich Town academy at the age of eight.

He signed his first professional contract with Ipswich in May 2014, penning a one-year deal, and on August 21 he made his first-team debut for the Blues in the League Cup against Crawley. Not long after, he made his league debut in the Championship against Derby County. On 11 September 2014, he penned a two-year extension to his Ipswich Town contract, such was his early impact.

He played 36 times for them in all competitions that campaign, scoring once. After that his progress was been hampered by injury, shin splints upsetting the 2015/16 campaign, ankle ligament damage ahead of the FA Cup games between the Tractor Boys and Lincoln in 2016/17, and a ruptured hamstring Boxing Day 2017.

In 2019/20, with the season curtailed early, he saw little action courtesy of a knee injury, playing just nine League One matches. Last season, he appeared 36 times for the Blues, scoring four goals. Somewhat ironically, he made more appearances last season for Ipswich than at any other time in his career, appearing 38 times. He had bagged four goals before Halloween too, but after Paul Lambert left his form tailed a little.

In total, Bishop has appeared 132 times for Ipswich, with 76 league starts, and scored five league goals. Last season he appeared in a variety of positions for Ipswich, including left-wing, attacking midfield and in a more central role. He had a 12-month extension triggered in his contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, which meant Ipswich were due a fee for him.

Despite that contract, he was told he was free to leave the club, and was made to train with the Under 23 side by manager Paul Cook. Despite rumoured interest from MK Dons and Cambridge, Bishop signed for the Imps on July 27, 2021.
