Rate The Players With The Stacey West

Last year was the first time we’d done a ‘rate the players’ feature, and it went down well.

You picked your player of the season, Conor McGrandles, by rating the player’s performances each week. It’s back again this time out, albeit 24 hours later than I imagined (not because I forgot… promise).

I was a little jaded after the game last night, for obvious reasons, and it’s taken me a few hours of videos and stats this morning to focus on the game, not the obvious events. I’ll stay silent on that for now, purely so the police can do their job, but I will say it’s a shame to see tweets blaming the players for entering the stand, the almost empty stand with a huge gap allowing it to be entered, purposefully or not, as soon as one leaves the pitch. The rights and wrongs of that can be debated, but I have zero doubt that Cohen heard what he heard, whatever the outcome.

Anyway, that was one incident in a game that served as a tasty opener for us. City played well in the main against a strong Gills side full of aggression and power, and both teams could easily have won it. A draw was the right result on reflection, I had no complaints about their goal, although Micahel suggested it might have been called offside. it wasn’t, they scored and 1-1 is pretty much as I expected. What about you?

Did the players impress? Who stood out for you? Max Melbourne is certainly doing himself the world of good with competent performances in pre-season and now in the league, whilst Lasse Sorensen‘s ball for the goal was of the highest quality. Did they get your Man of the Match shout? If not, who did?

Have your say below, and let’s get the Stacey West Player of the Year count up and running!
