What XI Should We Expect in the FA Cup?

I think the way we play means we need to have an experienced player in the key role, the one dubbed ‘quarterback’ by fans of football of both sorts. I see it as the conductor’s role, getting the ball in his own half, turning and spreading play. Liam Bridcutt does it best, and he’s the man I’d like to see in, but I suspect he’ll still be out for the cup tie. The only other shout in my eyes is Conor, a player with enough experience and know-how to pull some strings. His goal will give him increased confidence, and I can see an armband on the shirt for him on Saturday as well.

Max is a player who has had a tough start to his Imps life, but he’s coming into his own of late. He made an eye-catching cameo against Shrewsbury, littered with forward runs, positive passes and great football. He’s got skill, there’s no doubt about that, I just wonder if moving away from home and coming out of 23s football has made his settling in time tougher. Either way, I’d bet my house on him getting game time this weekend, and it could be the start of something beautiful.

We haven’t seen a lot of Remy this year, there’s no doubt he is a fringe player who hasn’t really grabbed his chances. He’s had a few knocks too; missing the penalty in the semi-final of the cup against Sunderland, and the spurned chance away at Burton. It’s such a shame, I desperately want Remy to do well and I suspect he is a confidence player. Hopefully, a start this weekend and a good performance can give him a bit of confidence after a few knocks.
