The National League Stars Who Could Be on Lincoln City’s Radar

With the transfer window coming up quickly, we thought we’d cast an eye over some players in the National League that we could be looking at.

Our interest in Ruben Rodrigues has been widely reported in recent months, with the 25-year-old turning in a series of impressive performances for high-flying Notts County. They’ll do their best to hang on to him, but just as we lost Theo Robinson in 2017, there might be too much lure in League One for the player. Of course, he wouldn’t come cheap, but fishing in National League waters does give us something of an advantage.

Good non league recruit – Simon Weaver

It’s a market that has been challenging for the Imps in the past. I remember David Ridings signing for City after winning an award in the Conference for Halifax. Ridings never got going at City, and since then (aside from Keith’s reign), there’s been a reluctance to buy from non-league. Kieth made a huge success of it, Simon Yeo, Ben Futcher, Richard Butcher and Simon Weaver to name but a few all did well for us. However, it’s pertinent to remember Keith also eyed Aaron Maclean, George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith whilst at City, but we were priced out of moves; they all had decent careers.

Who are the stars of the future currently playing their trade in the fifth tier of the English game? I’ve picked a handful here for you to talk about. There is no suggestion we’re looking at any of these, there’s none of that ‘I think we’re looking at one’ suggestion that you often draw. It’s purely me picking five players and saying; they’re alright, aren’t they?
