11th Hour Bid Accepted For Imps Attacker

It is my understanding that the club have accepted a bid for winger Anthony Scully.

Scully has been the subject of transfer speculation for much of the last 18 months, and as he enters the final stages of his contract, the club’s valuation has seemingly been met by an as-yet-unnamed Championship side. Again, my understanding is that earlier today, it was not expected, but as the day has progressed, interest has stepped up to a point where I now believe it is up to the player to agree on personal terms and have a medical. This is something that could see an announcement drag on as late as tomorrow morning.

You know me by now; I don’t put anything out that I don’t feel is solid, and there’s absolutely nothing official from the club as yet, but I am aware of the fact one wide player was expected to leave before the window closed. Along with Jack Diamond, Jordon Garrick, Charles Vernam and Danny Mandriou, the club felt they have five wide players, and game time wouldn’t be guaranteed for all five. That means that whilst Scully may well be leaving the club, we are not expecting a like-for-like replacement for him.

Scully joined the Imps on deadline day in February 2020, scoring his first goal for the Imps as we lost 4-3 at Accrington. The last two seasons have brought 15 goals a piece, and he’s become something of fan’s favourite at Sincil Bank. A likeable lad, he was always going to be one we hoped to move on for a profit, and that seems to be the case as the hours trickle away.

If the deal goes through, he will leave the club with 106 appearances, 79 of which have been starts, and 37 goals., including a single hat trick against Manchester United Under 21s and five-goal involvements in a single game against Cambridge United last season.

I’ll keep you updated if I hear any more before 11pm.
