Europa League, Internationals & Redditch – Where Are These Former Imps Now?

Jordan Roberts

Roberts was one of the signings made in the winter of 2018/19 to bolster our push towards the top of the table. He only appeared a handful of times and returned to Ipswich on completion of his loan. The following season, he moved to Gillingham on loan to play for Steve Evans, appearing at the Bank in the 0-0 draw which saw Tayo Edun sent off.

Oddly, like Josh Ginnelly, he then moved to Hearts and made his debut in the Scottish FA Cup, although he appeared as they beat Hibs 2-1. He was then loaned to Motherwell, where he scored against Hibs, and later Rangers. This summer, he penned a deal with his old manager Evans at Stevenage, where he’s currently on fire, scoring six in his last 11 outings.

It feels like Angol should have more seen more clubs than an eighties lunchbox, but it’s not actually the case. he had two spells with us, scoring six goals in 13 games in the National League winning season and seemingly agreeing to come back, only to sign for Evans at Mansfield. His form there earned him a move to League One Shrewsbury, which is where he came back from in 2018, appearing twice.

He left a second time, and it’s become a running joke that he’s on his way back. He hasn’t had many clubs since – he had two seasons with Leyton Orient before a switch to Bradford City, which is where he is now. He can’t buy a goal, though – he’s 20 games into this season without scoring.
