Lincoln City Former Players’ Association will take on their Bradford City counterparts this Sunday in the name of charity.
The fixture will raise money for a host of charities, with donations to the Lord Mayor of Bradford’s chosen charities, Lincoln Mayor’s chosen charities, Lincoln City Foundation, and the Bradford Burns Unit. It is the first fixture of its kind between the two teams and will be used to remember the 56 fans who perished on that awful day in 1985 when the two teams were facing off on the final day of the season.
It’s this weekend and will take place at the Sincil Bank with a 2 pm kick-off. Supporters can buy tickets by following this link.
Who can you expect to see? There have been a host of Imps’ legends announced, with Simon Yeo, Scott Kerr, Lee Beevers, and Terry Hawkridge all confirmed. John Schofield, the current Port Vale assistant manager, will also be playing, as well as Jake Sheridan from the early days of the Blue Square Premier.
As for Bradford City, expect to see Lee Duxbury, Dean Windass, Des Hamilton, Graeme Tomlinson, and Peter Costello (who also played for the Imps). It’s also rumoured that their former Brazilian star Edinho will be playing! Not often do we get to see Samba soccer on the hallowed turf!
It promises to be a great afternoon at the Bank, and all for a superb cause.
