Once again, a striker seemed to be top of the list – Matt Green’s move to Salford (technically December, but I’ve included it here) left us one short up top, and it went right down to deadline day. Instead of Danny Hylton, as many hoped, we got Lee Angol, who appeared twice from the bench. That was more than James Brown, another loanee who we never actually saw. However, in Danny Rowe and Mark O’Hara, we added some real quality to the side, and they helped us over the line to the title.

Players coming in permanently included Cian Bolger, who I don’t ever think really settled here. Matt Gilks certainly helped us in those final few weeks though, but it was again a functional window focused purely on the task in hand, not the long term. Only one player, Bolger, started the following campaign with us, and he was gone within 18 months, uncomfortable with the style of play we tried to adopt under a new manager.
