Imps Braced For 25-Year-Old’s Top Flight Switch

Reports from Scotland suggest that SPFL outfit St Mirren are on the verge of completing a move for Imps misfit Jaden Brown.

The report suggests Brown, who joined the Imps last summer, is signing a two-year deal with Stephen Robinson’s side as they look to embark on a European adventure next season. The left-back spent time on loan with The Buddies last season, appearing seven times, but starting just once.

The sporadic nature of his appearances didn’t hint at them coming back for him this summer, but they’ve clearly seen something they liked. Unfortunately for Brown, that wasn’t the case with Mark Kennedy or Michael Skubala, both of whom passed over the former England youth international during last season.

Arriving from Sheffield Wednesday, Brown started our first pre-season game against Boston United, but appeared just 11 times for Mark Kennedy before he was relieved of his duties. He was handed a chance in the interim period between Kennedy leaving and Michael coming in, with Tom Shaw picking him for the EFL Trophy win against Notts County.

Michael Skubala gave him a chance, with Brown coming off the bench against Stevenage in Michael’s first game and starting the second, our 1-0 win at Leyton Orient. However, he appeared just twice more and was loaned to St Mirren in the January window.

Brown started his career with Spurs, was part of the England under-16 team that won the Montaigu Tournament in 2015. He joined Huddersfield Town in 2019, but was loaned to exeter City, for whom he failed to appear. He did make 28 Championship appearances for the Terriers, but was released in 2021, prompting Sheff Weds to snap him up. In two seasons at Hillsborough, he appeared 32 times, scoring once.

If the reports are accurate, I wouldn’t get excited about a fee. Jez George made it clear both Brown and Ali Smith would be allowed to leave if an opportunity came their way, and we’re unlikely to complicate that by insisting on a fee.
