Imps Injury Boost As Midfielder Returns

City face Barnsley at the Bank this weekend, and we’ve had a little bit of good news with one player coming back into the side.

There are currently four players missing; Ethan Hamilton, Reeco Hackett, Tyler Walker and Conor McGrandles. We know Tyler is going to be a while, but news of the others has been a little less forthcoming.

While two of those players will still be missing, Michael Skubala confirmed on Imps+ that one is likely to be in contention for the team this weekend.

“Hamilton and Reeco are still a way off,” said Michael, who saw his side beaten in the cup this week against Harrogate Town. “Conor has trained this week, so he is in contention for the team this Saturday.”

News that McGrandles is back on the grass is big – aside from Ethan Erhahon, we’re loaded with forward-thinking midfielders such as Tom Bayliss, JJ McKiernan and Jack Moylan. The ‘worker’ if you like, linking Erhahon and the more advanced players, was missing against Harrogate, with Dom Jeffries. However, don’t expect him to start, as Michael did add a little more clarity to the situation.

“It may be a bit too early, but we’ll see. He’s the good news one at the minute.”

Conor is back at the Bank for a third spell, after initially joining from MK Dons in the summer of 2020. He won the Stacey West Player of the Season in the 2020/21 season, ahead of the likes of Brennan Johnson and Jorge Grant.

He was a key player in a tough 2021/22 season, starting 39 league matches as City battle against the drop. As Michael Appleton left the club, so did Conor, heading to Charlton.

His time with the Addicks was not happy, and he returned to us on loan last season after a similar spell with Cambridge. His time with us was hit by injury – after just five outings, he was ruled out until the end of the season, which took him beyond his loan spell.

The club acted quickly after that, making him the first signing of Michael’s summer recruitment, although he picked up another knock in pre-season, and hasn’t been seen in action yet this season.
