Rob Street has joined Doncaster Rovers, currently second in League Two, on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old forward signed a four-year contract with the Imps this summer and is part of the club’s long-term plans. For now, he will join Grant McCann’s side as they continue to fight for promotion from Sky Bet League Two, a move reminisce of Hakeeb Adelakun’s switch to Rovers last season.

Director of football Jez George said:

“We have a responsibility to Rob to help him get some football as with his injury last January and limited opportunities this season for us, he desperately needs some minutes on the pitch. All of our staff cannot speak highly enough of Rob’s character and mentality during a tough first six months at the club. He trains well every day, has an exemplary attitude and just needs games, which we haven’t been able to provide for him. This loan is good for all parties.

“Rob joins a good club in a brilliant position and their manager Grant McCann has made it really clear to us and Rob how much he wants him and the role he sees for him in the team. We believe that Rob can go there, get his game time, perform well, score goals, help Doncaster achieve their aims and come back better placed in the summer to do the same with us next season and beyond.”

Street began his career at Crystal Palace, progressing through their youth academy before signing a professional contract in 2020. While he did not make a senior appearance for Palace, he gained invaluable experience during several loan spells.

In January 2021, Street joined Torquay United on loan, making five appearances in the National League. He later moved to Newport County for the second half of the 2021–22 season, where he made 18 appearances and scored two goals in League Two. The following season, he spent a year with Shrewsbury Town in League One, featuring in 38 matches and scoring four goals. In June 2023, Street signed with Cheltenham Town on a three-year deal, contributing two goals in 22 appearances during the 2023–24 campaign.

This summer, following the Robins’ relegation, he joined the Imps, making his debut as an 82nd-minute sub on the opening day of the season. His first start came against Harrogate Town in the League Cup and he’s currently got one goal from 11 outings, coming against Manchester City Under 21s. He was last seen as a late sub as we went down 1-0 to Shrewsbury on Boxing Day.
