On a day when we got some good news from Tendayi Darikwa, I think we’ve also found out that Tyler Walker‘s Imps’ career is at an end.
In his pre-match press conference, which isn’t yet on YouTube, Michael Skubala has admitted Tyler has had another setback, and this one will rule him out for nine or ten weeks. Optimistically, that is mid-March, a stage where we’ll have a handful of matches left.
Walker’s second spell with us has been horrible – injured early last season, he came back briefly on the final day, only to pick up a fresh injury in pre-season. We saw him briefly again, away at Morecambe, and that was it – he’s now out once again, and with his contract up in the summer, it feels like he is finally finished as a Lincoln City player.
It’s tough – I feel he’s the type of striker we could use right now, but we’re not going to get to see him. Michael Skubala hints at planning for a future without Tyler, and while he can’t say that in as many words, I guess he’s in a place where there’s not a lot more he can say or do. Walker, who enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with us in 2019/20, has just been plagued by injuries.
it must be mentally tough for him. He was hot property back in 2019/20, recalled by Forest after two loan spells with us and Mansfield, which rained goals. His move to Coventry never worked out, and he’s since just be plagued by injuries. We praise Lewis Montsma for showing the mental strength to keep coming back, but there’s little for Walker. Why? Probably because he hasn’t come back, and that’s perhaps worse – at least Lewis had light at the end of the tunnel. For Tyler, that light must be difficult to see.
Where does he go now? I’d be surprised if we saw him in a City shirt again, and few clubs will be keen to pay big wages next season, given his fitness. I can see League Two being his destination, maybe a club there is willing to take a risk. What’s frustrating is when he is fit, he’s going to be a big asset to whichever club he represents.
it just won’t be us.
Good news indeed! We need a few more older, experienced, capable players like Tendayi. There was a time when we could rely on “old pros” to form a backbone for the team rather than a load of youngsters.
What bad news for Tyler Walker I think a lot of fans were hoping for him to be a Lewis mk 2 and what ever the injuries were he could put them behind him It is cruel to be kind but City should cancel his contract get him on one of those F A rehab courses It would free up cash then to bring in another striker who has a better goal to game ratio Than the misfiring 4wards we have at the moment All the best Tyler you did your best No City fan could deny that you didn’t Thanks for the memories UP THE IMPS
