Dylan Duffy has joined Sky Bet League Two side Chesterfield on loan until the end of the season.
Duffy moved to the Imps in 2022 from League of Ireland side UCD and has made more than 50 appearances for the club, scoring three times. This season, the 22-year-old was rocked by a gambling charge, which resulted in a fine and a warning over his future conduct. That coincided with a spell on the sidelines injured, and since he’s been back in contention, he’s been used sparingly.

City’s director of football, Jez George, said;
“This is a really good option for Dylan to play a number of back-to-back games between now and the end of the season. For various reasons, Dylan hasn’t been able to get regular starts this season, so this opportunity is crucial for his development. Paul Cook is an excellent manager, knows how to set up a team and really wants Dylan, so that has been a big factor in the decision.
“Chesterfield are chasing a play-off place so they have everything to play for and Paul has a track-record of getting teams promoted, so we look forward to seeing Dylan’s progress over the remainder of this season and hopefully contribute to their success.”

Duffy, primarily a left winger or left wing back, has often impressed with his directness when coming on, but has struggled to nail down a first team place. In our 3-5-2 formation he has to play wing back, and currently, Reeco Hackett and Dom Jeffries are ahead of him in the pecking order.
It does feel like a club playing 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 might be more suited to Dylan Duffy, not least because a spot has opened in their side – James Berry plays left wing and has recently joined Wycombe, meaning Duffy is likely to see some action during his stay with the Spireites.
