Looking back over March was both fun and a little heartbreaking.
There were some solid results and some great performances, as well as a few indications of why we sit where we do. It’s hard to think just four weeks ago some fans believed we were in danger of relegation. We put that to bed, so perhaps March wasn’t as bad as people think.
We did score 12 goals, conceding just seven, but seven points from six games is a midtable return. That said, we did play a play-off chasing side, and two automatic contenders away from home.

As you know by now, The Stacey West allows the reader to rate each player after a game, coming up with a definite Player of the Month. To qualify, a player must have played in 50% of the games that month, and to get a rating a player must have been on the field of play for 15 minutes or more as a sub.
With that in mind, here is your Player of the Month and the best and worst of the team’s performances.
You can now check out all the winners of our monthly awards by going to our Roll of Honour page
Player of the Month
Jovon Makama (7.14)
It is rare I take such immense pleasure from announcing a Player of the Month, but this is a brilliant moment. Jovon has been a revelation since moving out wide, and his virtuoso display against The Gas is one of the highlights of the season. That, along with some solid outings across the month, ensures he wins his first Player of the Month award on the Stacey West.
For the record, Paudie was next, albeit only playing four games of the seven, with Tendayi Darikwa and Tom Hamer tied third.
Individual Performance of the Month
Jovon Makama (Bristol Rovers H) 9.6
You have to go back to the 2021/22 season for a better individual performance, the day Anthony Scully got two goals and three assists, and in the whole time the rater has been active, only one other player (Chris Maguire) has hit 9.6.
Makama was utterly unplayable, and he’s given us glimpses of exactly what he can do out wide. It’s also his second time as the best individual performance after his display against Reading. I’m excited for the next 12 months.
Best Team Performance of the Month
v Bristol Rovers (A) 7.63
Makama hat trick, goal direct from a corner, a second 5-0 win against The Gas in as many seasons… this was a real highlight of the current campaign. Jovon stole the show, but it was a slick team performance against a side who weren’t in bad form.
Worst Team Performance of the Month
Barnsley (A) – 4.90

A bad Barnsley side didn’t need to be anything else aginst us, as we gifted them not one, but four goals. What is surprising is our late rally almost brought us some reward, but we wouldn’t have deserved it. Fan opinion hit rock bottom after this game – it got so bad that our 4-1 win at Crawley only scored 6.77 a couple of days later, as if somehow the pessimism seeped into the next result’s ratings.
