Tom Hopper
Another COVID window signing was Tom Hopper, and he took a while to get going. His first goals for City were in the final game before COVID, as we beat Burton 3-2 at the Bank.
Much of his best football came in the following season, and I’ll never forget his goal against Sunderland in the first leg of the play-offs. It was the first roar of the crowd we’d heard in over a year, and it was emotional beyond belief. His next goal, in the second leg, literally made me cry.
Tom is an underrated part of our recent history. After that season, he tailed off with injuries, but he played a vital role in our surge to the play-off final and was a big winter capture for then-manager Michael Appleton.
