Lincoln City April / May Review

Before we go into the season review, I thought it prudent to put out our final monthly review.

I have included May in this, as I wasn’t going to faff about with one game as an individual month!

It was a tough month for City – even from our midtable position, we only played one side below us in the table. However from the seven matches we produced three wins, two draws and two defeats, scoring 11 goals and letting in ten.

Tu 01 Apr 2025 Lincoln 1 – 0 Huddersfield
Sa 05 Apr 2025 Charlton 2 – 2 Lincoln
Sa 12 Apr 2025 Lincoln 1 – 1 Shrewsbury
Fr 18 Apr 2025 Reading 0 – 1 Lincoln
Mo 21 Apr 2025 Lincoln 4 – 2 Bolton
Sa 26 Apr 2025 Stockport 3 – 2 Lincoln
Sa 03 May 2025 Lincoln 0 – 2 Wrexham

As you know by now, The Stacey West allows the reader to rate each player after a game, coming up with a definite Player of the Month. To qualify, a player must have played in 50% of the games that month, and to get a rating a player must have been on the field of play for 15 minutes or more as a sub.

With that in mind, here is your Player of the Month and the best and worst of the team’s performances.

You can now check out all the winners of our monthly awards by going to our Roll of Honour page

Player of the Month

Ethan Hamilton (7.48)

He’s back! After a tough season with his injury, Ethan Hamilton struggled to impose himself on the first team picture. That was until this month, kicked off by us giving him Man of the Match against Huddersfield. He’s clearly impressed since then, and earns his first Player of the Month this season, his third of his Imps career.

This bodes well for the future.

It’s worth noting that he got 7.48, while Sean Roughan and Tom Hamer tied on 7.47, possibly the closest top three I’ve ever seen.

Individual Performance of the Month

James Collins (Bolton Wanderers H) 8.9

James Collins bagged a brace to help us down the Trotters, and in doing so he pipped himself to performance of the month – he got 8.8 against Charlton Athletic and 8.9 against Bolton.

Again, like Hamilton’s monthly award, this is one that has a strong positive vibe for the future, as well as signing off this month in style.

Best Team Performance of the Month

v Bolton Wanderers (H) 7.44

It was a cold, wet day, but in Lincolnshire, the sun was shining in all our hearts as we finally got a win against Bolton at the eighth time of asking.

It had a bit of everything, didn’t it? A red card, the referee falling over, a penalty, a great performance from James Collins and that goal by Reeco to top it all off. Magic.

Worst Team Performance of the Month

Shrewsbury Town (H) – 5.84

I had to talk about this, live on stage, for 45 minutes. I gave that experience a 10/10 because we had a laugh, but the subject matter was tough to discuss.

Not much happened. Shrewsbury were poor, we weren’t great and everything was just flat. Oh well, it doesn’t really matter now, as long as we identify why and ensure we don’t struggle so much next season against teams as bad as Salop.
