Chris Sharp
Europa League (2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12), Champions League (2010/11)
Yeah, you didn’t expect to read this name in the Champions League bit, did you?
Chris Sharp enjoyed a rare run of sustained European football with two Welsh Premier League clubs. He played in the Europa League with Bangor City in 2009/10 and then with The New Saints in the following two seasons. His 2010/11 campaign also included a Champions League qualifier, adding further prestige to his record.
Sharp had a brief trial with Lincoln City during the 2013/14 campaign but did not sign permanently. He started three matches, scoring once as we lost 4-1 at Forest Green Rovers.

Danny Mandroiu
Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League (2020, 2021, 2024, 2025)
Danny Mandroiu took part in the Europa Conference League during consecutive seasons with Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers. With Bohemians, he also featured once in the Europa League. He later played in Europe again with Shamrock before moving to City.
At Sincil Bank, Mandroiu added a touch of flair to the midfield, combining technical ability with a calmness in possession that reflected his continental pedigree. There were a few grumbles at times over his application, and silly red cards, and eventually he sloped off to Ireland after helping get Mark kennedy the sack.
Mandroiu’s European background was meant to set him apart from many League One peers, and while he had panache, he did lack a bit of fight.
Gary Powell
Champions League (2004/05, 2005/06), Intertoto Cup (2008/09)
Gary Powell, who may be a new name to many of you, played in Europe with Rhyl during a golden era for the club. He featured in Champions League qualifiers in back-to-back seasons, including a memorable tie against Skonto Riga in which he scored. Later, he also appeared in the 2008 Intertoto Cup, rounding off a lengthy non-league and Welsh Premier League career with genuine continental experience.
Powell spent a short spell during the 1990/91 season with City, making 11 appearances. He is remenbered as being a bit unlucky – he played under Allan Clarke at a time when we were trying to reinvent oursevles as a ball playing side, but probably didn’t have the right tools.
