I’ve been looking at Lincoln City players who played in Europe, and have covered all (we have found) who played Champions League, European Cup and European Cup Winners Cup.
Today, we’re looking at the now-defunct UEFA Cup, which sits between the Europa League and Inter City Fairs Cup. Remember, if a player featured in the ECWC, European Cup or Champions League as well as the UEFA Cup, then they’ll already be on another article.

Ben Wright
UEFA Cup (2002)
Ben Wright played in the 2002–03 Cup while on the books of Norwegian side Viking FK. His European involvement came during a memorable campaign in which Viking famously knocked Chelsea out in the first round, with Wright’s away goal key in the encounter. Wright was part of the squad at the time and featured in the club’s domestic and continental efforts, though his role in the European games was limited.
He later joined City in 2006 and became an important attacking figure. During the 2007–08 League Two season, Wright was the Imps’ top scorer, helping the club move away from the bottom two. While his European experience came early in his career and outside of England, it gave him a taste of high-level competition that preceded his strong contribution in domestic football with the Imps.

Chris Maguire
UEFA Cup (2007–08)
Chris Maguire played in the Cup with Aberdeen during the 2007–08 season. He featured in the group stage, with the Scottish side drawn against high-profile opposition including Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich. Though he was still an emerging talent at the time, Maguire gained valuable experience at European level.
His career would later span multiple clubs across the English and Scottish leagues. He joined the Imps late in his career, but his time at the club was short-lived and marred by off-field issues, leading to his release in early 2023.
