FA Cup First Round Draw Details Released

The Imps will find out their opponents for the first round of the FA Cup this coming Monday, October 13th.

You know you’re knee-deep in the season when the FA Cup draw is made, and we’ll be hoping for a decent draw at home against a lower league club, to give us a chance for another Third Round run.

The draw will get underway from approximately 6:30 pm live on TNT Sports 1 as well as their YouTube channel, during pre-match coverage of the qualifying games between Worthing and Forest Green Rovers (Up the Worthing, am I right?).

There will be 40 first-round ties to take place across the first weekend of November to kick off another FA Cup campaign. A handful will be on television, as our game against Chesham was last season.

Imps Recent First Round Games

We’ve had some stinking draws in recent seasons, but not always in the First Round. In fact, we’ve had some good draws, and have fumbled things a bit in one or two.

Last season’s banana skin at Chesham was negotiated with a 4-0 win, leading to a honking away draw at Crawley. The season before, we drew League Two side Morecambe at home, only to lose 2-1 under the watchful eye of current assistant Tom Shaw.

It wasn’t the only humbling we have had in recent seasons. In 2022, non-league Chippenham beat Mark Kennedy’s side 1-0, while the season before it took a 66th-minute Max Sanders goal to break Bowers & Pitsea’s resistance at the Bank.

Michael Appleton did have a 100%  pre-COVID record at home in the FA Cup First Round, as his slick Imps side downed Forest Green Rovers 6-2 the season before, although he did lose the First Round replay in 2019 against Ipswich Town.

In fairness, we’ve had a home time five seasons out of seven seasons, because in 2018/19, Danny Cowley’s side got Northampton at home, winning 3-2 to set up a Second Round tie with Carlisle United and, ultimately, a Third Round trip to Goodison Park.
