Exeter City’s Wareham Sets Tone For Devon Derby: “Massive Game, But Still Three Points”

Exeter City forward Jayden Wareham says the focus for Thursday night’s televised Devon derby with Plymouth Argyle is to channel the occasion without losing sight of the basics.

Tickets for St James Park are sold out and Wareham, a summer signing from Reading, has three goals to his name as the Grecians look to respond to a narrow defeat at Stockport County.

He admitted he only fully appreciated the scale of the rivalry after arriving but believes City can beat anyone at home with the Big Bank behind them. Training and analysis have been condensed into a three-day build-up and the striker is targeting another contribution on a high-profile night.

He added that the squad will “leave everything out there” while trying to treat it like any other league fixture.

“I didn’t realise how big it is until I came to City and how big that rivalry is.”

“It’s a massive game and it’s a big derby against our rivals, but it’s just three points for us at the end of the day.”

“Being on Sky, we all want to put on a show… if we get the crowd behind us, we can beat anyone.”
