‘Embarrassed’ Edwards promises Plymouth response after Devon derby

Plymouth Argyle captain Joe Edwards labelled the Devon derby defeat at Exeter City “embarrassing” and pledged a response as the Pilgrims seek to climb away from early-season trouble. Edwards, who made his 250th Argyle appearance in the match, said the team fell short of required standards and owes supporters a reaction.

“It’s not good enough. Embarrassed. We know how much this means to the club, to the city, to us. We need to be the ones who turn this around because we owe them that now, the fans.”

Argyle were outplayed by their rivals and slipped deeper into the bottom reaches of League One. Head coach Tom Cleverley has vowed to “fix foundations,” while the captain’s message was clear: performances must improve quickly to halt the slide and restore belief.
