Plymouth Argyle: Cleverley Says Problems ‘No Overnight Fix’ After Wycombe Defeat

Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley warned supporters that the club’s current issues will take time to solve after a two nil FA Cup loss at Wycombe. A second-half double from Cauley Woodrow sealed defeat and extended Argyle’s winless run. Cleverley was frank about the scale of the task.

“This isn’t an overnight fix, let me tell you that for absolute sure,” he said. “This is not a magic wand moment. This is a long, hard, painful road that will take months, will take transfer windows.”

He felt Argyle were “well beaten” and short both physically and technically.

“We didn’t show any confidence on the ball, we didn’t show any good technique… from a quality perspective, we were so far off the level.”

The head coach referenced a mentality hangover when falling behind.

“We’ve not dealt with disappointment well… When we go behind, there seems to be an acceptance of that. It’s a mentality we need to change.”

Cleverley, who has aimed to tighten the defence first, acknowledged fragility after the opener. He retains board backing, but with league form dipping, he stressed the need for incremental improvements and a tougher mindset to navigate a congested November schedule.
