Doncaster Rovers: Sterry Nearing Return As McCann Plans Midweek ‘Bounce’ Game

Doncaster Rovers vice-captain Jamie Sterry is edging toward a first-team return after facial and shoulder injuries disrupted his season, although this week’s behind-closed-doors fixture will come too soon. Manager Grant McCann outlined a tentative target for minutes as Rovers balance rehabilitation with a busy run.

“With Jamie we’re possibly looking at the Bradford game (Vertu Trophy, November 11),” McCann said. “Maybe he can get him 45 minutes in that one.”

Rovers have arranged a midweek ‘bounce’ game against League One opposition to top up fitness for fringe players.

“We’ll have a bounce game in the week for the lads that need some minutes… it’ll be good for Brandon, Joe Sbarra and one or two others who need games,”

McCann added, noting recent training progress for Tom Nixon and the need to keep the squad ready. He flagged a heavy November, including the FA Cup second round, and stressed the importance of depth during Saturday-Tuesday cycles.

“There’ll possibly be seven games in November. So it’s important to keep the players ready for when they’re called upon.”

Doncaster return to league action against Barnsley at the Eco-Power Stadium, with Sterry’s timeline and the additional minutes for key squad members central to McCann’s planning.
