League One Roundup – Wimbledon Man’s Betting Ban, Sickness Sweeps Through Wigan Squad

League One continues to produce stories centred on selection decisions, supporter behaviour, squad morale and the search for momentum as the winter schedule gathers pace. Here is the latest picture across the division.

Exeter Seek Calm As Financial Strain Intensifies

Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell has urged his squad to block out the significant off-field uncertainty surrounding the club as they aim to push clear of the relegation places.

City confirmed last month that they had required two Supporters’ Trust loans totalling £600,000 after an overspend last season, with redundancies now expected.

Exeter sit 20th, only one point above the drop zone, and could fall into the bottom four if Plymouth Argyle win their rearranged fixture.

“There is a lot of noise, but we have to bring the positivity by performing on the pitch and by winning games of football,” Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.

Caldwell warned that January recruitment will be restricted, though he believes the club can still be creative. He pointed to last winter, when Exeter improved despite having far less spending power than rivals, and says the focus must stay on raising internal standards.
