Lincolnshire Non-League Weekend Preview

As part of our coverage expansion, we’re looking to delve deeper into some of the non-league sides in the area.

That’s Lincolnshire sides, but not ones I consider a rival. You’ll never find me covering Scunthorpe, and while Boston remain in the National League, you’ll get a bit, but if they ever come up, they’re gone as well! This is a Lincoln City site, but many Patreons have asked if we can cover other clubs they might go and watch.

With the Imps having a blank weekend, here are what our local non-league clubs are doing. Perhaps there is something for you to go and watch.

Boston United

You won’t be able to watch our highest-placed non-league loanee this weekend. Oisin Gallagher is likely to feature for Boston, but they make a long trip north to face Morecambe.

The Pilgrims need a win: they’re 18th but have just one win in nine in all competitions. Morecambe are 22nd, with just two wins in 16. However, one of those wins, a 4-0 thrashing, came at York Street in the first fixture between the clubs.

Gainsborough Trinity

Gainsborough bounced back from a 4-1 hammering against Hebburn with a valiant draw at Morpeth in midweek, but it’s left them eight points outside the play-offs in the Northern Premier League, with a game in hand of fifth-placed FC United of Manchester. It’s worth noting they have three in hand over Warrington Rylands, nine points clear in fourth.

They’ve got a big game this weekend, away at Warrington Town. They’re one place above the Holy Blues, a point ahead, having played two games more.

Lincoln United

A level below Gainsborough, Lincoln United haven’t played since November 22nd, when they lost 2-0 at home to Ashington Town. Billy Heath will take charge of his first game, with the Whites level on points with Ashington in the final relegation spot, having played a game more.

This weekend they travel to Garforth Town, who once famously signed the Brazilian Socrates. Garforth are ninth, but they’ve lost five of their 11 home matches so far. Still, the Whites have yet to win away, so this is a huge test for them.

Spalding United

Spalding are essentially the same level as Gainsborough Trinity, a step 3 side, and they are on course for the National League North as things stand. The Tulips are a point clear of Harborough Town, albeit having played two games more, at the top of the table. Needham Market, relegated from the National League North last season, are eight points behind.

They play eighth-placed Leiston at home this weekend, fresh from a 7-0 thrashing of Redditch United. Jimmy Dean’s side kick off at 3 pm and if you were of a mind to go, the ground can be found at PE11 1DA.

Stamford AFC

33 points further down the league, we find Stamford, and while the Tulips are flowering, the Daniels look likely to drop off like petals in autumn. Graham Drury’s side needs a win to lift them off the bottom, and this weekend is crunch time.

They have two games in hand over Redditch, who are second bottom, three points ahead. This is a huge relegation six-pointer, and having beaten Kettering in their last home game, hopes are high. Ish.

United Counties League Premier Division

There are a few step five matches in our area, with the United Counties Premier Division North hosting Boston Town, Newark Town, Newark and Sherwood, Grantham Town and Skegness Town. Of those, only the two Newark sides are at home this weekend, Town facing Harrowby and Sherwood facing Skegness Town.

In the division below, Louth Town host Selby, and Brigg Town host the ambitiously titled Doncaster City. Sleaford Town, same level but in the United Counties League, are up against Pinxton at home.
