The Imps were linked with Irish striker Eoin Kenny yesterday, alongside fellow League One outfit Blackpool.
Kenny helped Dundalk to promotion from the Irish second tier last season, hitting anywhere between nine and 12 goals depending on the outlet you follow.
Earlier in the season, he was linked with Blackburn Rovers, but yesterday’s news report from Football League World mentioned us and Blackpool. It’s the sort of deal we’ve pursued in the past, bringing Sean Roughan, Oisin Gallagher and Dylan Duffy over from Ireland.
We were even linked with Kenny’s Dundalk team mate, Gbemi Arubi, last season after he appeared in a trial game. Also, his Dad, Stephen, was once heavily linked with a switch here as well.
So, while the rumour may hold some weight at our end, Tangerines boss Ian Evatt has moved quickly to dispel the rumours.
“He’s not a player I’m aware of, or aware that we’re looking at, so that’s a no,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.
“In terms of improving the squad, it doesn’t matter what position; we want to sign players to improve. I have a great relationship with David (Downes) and the rest of the recruitment team.
“A lot of conversations are happening behind-the-scenes, but there are no definitive plans yet, but there are lots of proactive conversations, so by January we will be ready for it.”
That is fairly definitive. Michael Skubala was quizzed on his transfer plans yesterday, asking what was on his Christmas wishlist, and he gave a typically pragmatic Michael Skubala answer.
“Three points in the next game. That’s always the same. Three points is the most important thing. If we can get the three points and keep moving in the right direction, that’s the most important thing.”
So, nothing was given away there at all!
Kenny is currently reported to be a free agent, although reports from Dundalk do not confirm this, as he wasn’t on their list of players exiting recently
