Ireland, both the League of Ireland and the NIFL, has provided an interesting hunting ground for the Imps over the last few seasons.
We’ve dipped our toe in the water with a series of captures, from Oisin Gallagher, technically bridging both countries, to Dylan Duffy. We’ve looked at trialists, and if reports are to be believed, we’re about to spend a big fee on a player from Shamrock Rovers, Josh Honohan.
It got me thinking about transfers from Ireland and Northern Ireland, and whether we generally did well or not. Rather than try to second-guess, I thought I’d produce an article on the top five captures from across the Irish Sea.
I found out, picking five was much harder than it looked. We’ve signed some fine players from Ireland, and when I tell you that Danny Mandroiu, a man with 22 League One goal involvements for us, doesn’t make the list, I’m sure your interest will be piqued.

Enjoy the list!
