Renowned Peterborough United journalist Alan Swann has declared he doesn’t want the Imps to be promoted this season.
Swann, a respected journalist with the Peterborough Telegraph, was at the Bank this weekend as we put five past Posh for the second season in a row. It strengthened our unlikely push for a top-two place in League One and stopped the momentum they’d harnessed since Luke Williams took over.
Swann has declared he doesn’t want the Imps to go up in the aftermath of our 5-2 win, but in fairness, his reasons are very amicable. In fact, everything post-Posh has been quite friendly, from their manager’s comments to interactions I’ve had online with their supporters.
There are no jealous reasons behind Swann’s opinion – in fact, his desire for us to stay in this division is rooted in high praise!

“I don’t want Lincoln to go up, even if they have now scored 13 goals in their last three games against Posh,” he said, referencing a desire to get them off the Peterborough fixture list.
“I look forward to my visits to Sincil Bank. The atmosphere is great (I even quite like the air raid siren), the staff are great, the manager seems like a good bloke, it’s a short trip, the working facilities and view are excellent.”
Sadly, for Swann, he might not get his wish to return next season. We’re flying at the minute, and the promotion push that nobody predicted pre-season has turned into something tangible, the closest we’ve felt to it since the heady days of lockdown and Covid.
That’s a feeling increasingly shared by pundits and journalists. I am on talkSPORT’s EFL All Access this evening, a sign that we’re obviously doing something right. Doubtless, I’ll be talking about our potential promotion, and even Alan Swann feels we might just do it.
“I reckon they might just do it, though and good luck to them,” he finished. “Some of the bigger, better-financed clubs are struggling to match their momentum.”
Until next time, Alan and Posh, hopefully as a Championship encounter.
