Lincoln City Announce Deadline Day Dutch Departure

Lewis Montsma has completed a permanent transfer to Scottish Premiership side Dundee, bringing to an end a five year stay in Lincolnshire.

The centre-back first signed for the Imps in July 2020, with a stunning opening season which saw him score nine goals across 49 appearances in a season which culminated in a trip to the League One play-off final at Wembley. He also scored in City’s Carabao Cup tie with Liverpool.

He has shown real resilience in twice coming back from anterior cruciate ligament knee injuries to return to the first-team squad. These injuries limited Lewis, who achieved a total of 108 outings for City, and a total of 12 goals, will leave as a modern day fans’ favourite for his performances, personality and professionalism on and off the pitch.

Unfortunately, this has been on the cards for much of the January transfer window, with Lewis yet to make a League One appearance this season. After his showing in the League Cup against Chelsea, that would have been difficult to believe. But injuries have continued to haunt the 27-year-old, and he has never been able to hit the same heights as his debut campaign with Lincoln.

A fresh move to Scotland should hopefully help kick-start his career, and at the end of the day, I’m sure every Lincoln fan would be happy to see that. It genuinely feels a huge shame that we never got to see the best of Montsma in person, and that he hasn’t yet become the player that I thought he would develop into following those horrific ACL injuries.

Lewis leaves with the best wishes from everyone at The Stacey West in his future exploits.
