League One Latest: Mansfield Town Boss Blasts Ridiculous Defeat, Jon Brady Lays Into Unacceptable Port Vale

It’s time for another League One news roundup, featuring the top stories we haven’t already covered from our division.

Port Vale Boss Lays Into ‘Unacceptable’ Exit

Port Vale manager Jon Brady labelled his side’s 4-0 Vertu Trophy quarter-final defeat to Stockport County “unacceptable” and “nowhere near good enough” as pressure continues to mount on the League One strugglers.

Vale, currently bottom of the third tier, were beaten by fellow League One opposition with Stockport scoring with all four of their shots on target. Brady, appointed in early January following Darren Moore’s departure, made nine changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Burton Albion in the league, but refused to hide behind rotation.

“To crumble like we did – they had four shots on goal and score four goals – it’s way too easy.

“I can coach the players but in those moments they have to be better and it’s nowhere near good enough.

“It’s almost as if we freeze at times and it’s something we need to eradicate out of this team.”

Despite insisting he has seen encouraging signs on the training ground, Brady admitted he is “in shock at some of the things we do” during matches. With an 11-point gap to safety and 18 league games remaining, the margin for error is shrinking quickly for a side already rooted to the foot of the table.
