Manning Backs Wales Despite Derby Omission

As detailed by the Yorkshire Post, Huddersfield Town boss Liam Manning insists loan striker Bobby Wales will still play a role in the run-in despite being left out of the squad against Barnsley.

Wales, who joined from Swansea City on deadline day, has made several substitute appearances and started a Trophy tie, but was omitted as Manning opted for balance following Alfie May’s return from suspension.

“It was just balance and options on the bench,” said Manning.

“Obviously, we started with Alfie and then had two strikers on the bench. In terms of it, I had a chat with Bobby and explained why I had that discussion with him. He’s going to play a part in the run-in as well.

“A couple of weeks ago it was Will being left out at Stevenage and here was Bobby. All they can control is being ready when the team needs them.”

With Huddersfield sitting sixth and pushing for promotion, squad management is becoming increasingly delicate. Selection calls now are as much about psychology as tactics, and the handling of fringe players could yet influence how the final weeks unfold.
