Michael Skubala has delivered an ominous message to the Imps’ promotion rivals in the wake of another big victory.

The Imps finished February with 13 points from 15, and an aggregate score of 15-2 across the whole month. Goals are coming from all sources, and two first team players got their first of the season yesterday, Conor McGrandles and Dom Jefferies.

Speaking to John Helm after the game, our head coach sounded a warning to the rest of the division.

“I think we’re getting stronger,” Michael said after demolishing Blackpool 4-0.

“You can see the confidence in the group. You can see the learning from some of the newer players in January of how we want to look and what we want to be.”

City got stronger as the Blackpool game went on. The visitors certainly didn’t roll over like Northampton, and the game was poised at 1-0 with 12 minutes left, before Rob Street, Jefferies and Ryan Oné made it safe. Jefferies assisted Oné, meaning subs had three goal involvements.

Alfie Lloyd also put in an eyecatching energetic performance after coming on, underlining the depth in the squad as we approach the final 12 matches of the season.

“You can see the competitiveness of it,” added Michael. “I think you can see what I believe is a really good training group throughout the week that have the desire to work hard every day and the Saturday is an output of that.

“(I’m) really pleased with that because that wasn’t an easy game today. They have some really good players in their team, and we had to really work hard in the first half to get the upper hand, and then I think in the second half we blew them away.”

The win ensures City remain 10 points clear of Bolton in third, as the Trotters grabbed their own big win away at Exeter. We also remain a point behind Cardiff City, another big winner yesterday, with the Bluebirds our opponents next weekend.
