Boston United stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches after sharing the spoils with Woking in an entertaining encounter at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
Boston United were involved in an end-to-end contest with Woking in front of a crowd of 1,565, with the Pilgrims fielding new signing Dan Cameron straight away. The 20-year-old goalkeeper, on loan from Sunderland, went straight into the starting line-up, while another addition, winger Luca Barrington, began the game among the substitutes.
It proved a difficult start for the hosts. Woking struck as early as the third minute to take the lead, leaving Boston chasing the game almost immediately. Despite the setback, United gradually worked their way into the match and began to produce some promising attacking play.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 38th minute when Cusions levelled the scores with an excellent strike. However, just as Boston appeared to have regained their footing, sloppy defending allowed Sanderson to restore Woking’s advantage in the 44th minute, sending the visitors into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Boston responded well after half time and began the second period strongly. Barrington was introduced in the 62nd minute to make his debut and his arrival coincided with an immediate impact at the other end, as McGuire equalised within a minute to bring the Pilgrims back on terms.
The game remained open, with both sides pushing forward, and Boston nearly completed the turnaround in the 79th minute. Alex delivered a cross into the area which Barrington controlled with his chest, but his effort drifted just wide of the post.
In the end the two sides had to settle for a point, although the result extended United’s current unbeaten run to eight matches.
Elsewhere, Pinchbeck United travelled to in form Clifton All Whites hoping to halt a difficult run of results. They began brightly and created the better opportunities in the early stages, but the hosts gradually grew into the game and opened the scoring around the half hour mark.
The visitors continued to work hard after the interval and had chances to equalise, yet they were unable to convert their opportunities. Clifton eventually sealed the win in the 84th minute with a second goal, leaving Pinchbeck frustrated despite another competitive display. The chances are being created, but turning them into goals remains the missing piece.
Brigg Town, still pushing for a play off place, were on the road against Selby Town. The first half was closely contested, though Selby edged ahead in the 30th minute to lead 1-0 at the break.
Town responded well after the restart and were rewarded in the 51st minute when Batty found the equaliser. Brigg pushed forward in search of a winner, particularly in the closing stages, but neither side could find a decisive goal and the match finished level, keeping Brigg’s promotion hopes firmly alive.
