‘He’s That Good’ – Lincoln City Loan Star Praised After Recent Form

Zane Okoro has been in the news this week after giving a great interview to the club’s official channels, but he’s one of two Lincoln City players thriving in Ireland right now.

MJ Kamara has had a slightly different experience, struggling to get into the Glentoran team when he first arrived. He fought hard, bided his time, and he’s since become established in their starting XI as they hunt a European spot. They’re currently second in the NIFL, a place which would give them a Conference League spot.

They’re five points behind leaders Larne, with a game in hand, and MJ has been nothing short of sensational since getting into the side. In the last three matches, he’s got two goals and an assist, and that’s left his side within touching distance of Europe.

Playing right centre back, he grabbed an assist as they won 4-0 away at Cliftonville, heading goalwards from a corner only for Jordan Stewart to turn it home.

He was among the goals himself on Saturday as his side crushed Crusaders 5-1. Once again, it was a set piece, a round of head tennis finding him in space 12 yards out, angling a header well away from the keeper. It’s promising to see him involved from set pieces from our point of view, given our strengths in that position.

Last night, he was once again a threat from a corner, this time poking the ball home after Carrick Rangers’ keeper Nathan Gartside had spilled Aaron McEneff’s corner. That was the only goal of the game, and it lifted his side above Okoro’s Coleraine and into second place.

In amongst that is some really impressive defensive work. In the matches against Cliftonville and Crusaders, he had aerial duel win percentages of 62% and 83%, respectively. He’s always looked to be a powerful young man, stocky and strong, but his growth in Ireland has been striking.

He’s been good on the ball, with a passing accuracy of 75.1% across his whole time in Ireland. With 6.17 interceptions per game, he’s the eighth best in the division, and second for defenders 21 and under. He’s sixth overall for aerial duels in the division, third for 21 and under, and he ranks in the top 25 for aerial duel success, aerial duels in own penalty area and shots blocked.

That’s led to a number of supporters waxing lyrical about him, with one paying a huge compliment. User Dixie Dean on Twitter suggests that he has ‘too much quality’ for a move to the NIFL, which bodes well for us.

“The best compliment I could pay him is I wish it wasn’t a loan and he was a permanent signing, he’s been that good, but I know that definitely won’t happen as he’s too much quality.”

Another user, Gurntorun FC, suggested MJ is ‘raw’ but that in this case, that is not a bad thing.

He is raw, and that’s sometimes a bad thing, but not in this case. My only criticism is he is a little relaxed around the edge of the box at times.”

Whatever his strengths and weaknesses, it has certainly been a good loan for the former Bromley player, who has demonstrated a great attitude when left out of the side, and has seized his chance when he has been afforded the opportunity.

What that leads to at Sincil Bank remains to be seen, but he’s doing all that can be asked while out on loan.
