Peterborough Midfielder Faces World Cup Fitness Race
Peterborough United midfielder Matt Garbett is racing to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup after missing recent matches with injury, as reported by the Peterborough Telegraph.
The 23-year-old has not featured for Posh since January 31 due to a heel injury and has been left out of New Zealand’s upcoming friendlies against Finland and Chile.
Garbett is normally a regular pick for the All Whites, meaning the injury comes at a frustrating time with the World Cup looming later this summer.
If he recovers in time and is selected for the tournament, he would become the first current Peterborough player to appear at a World Cup finals.
The midfielder is not expected to return to action until April at the earliest, meaning his club and international hopes both depend on how quickly he can regain fitness in the coming weeks.
