‘I Hope They Get Over The Line’ – Rotherham United Manager Pays Huge Tribute To Imps

Rotherham United boss Lee Clark might be an old dog looking to teach a few new tricks, but he’s already embraced the art of being magnanimous, following his side’s heavy defeat at Sincil Bank.

Clark hasn’t managed in the Football League since October 2017, and was taking charge of his first game at the Bank as a manager. His side weren’t great, they weren’t awful, but they wound up on the end of a heavy defeat.

A brace by Reeco Hackett (take that, dubious goals panel), either side of Ben House’s deflected strike, saw City 3-0 up at half-time. Duncan Watmore felt he should have had a penalty at 1-0, a moment which could have changed the game, but Clark was having none of it.

“Not a pen,” he said of the moment Watmore went to ground after minimal contact from Ivan Varfolomeev, which I respect. He could have tried to hide behind a decision, but he didn’t. Maybe, just maybe, he is the guy for Rotherham United.

He said plenty more about the Millers, but we’re a Lincoln City site, and we’re interested in what he said about Lincoln City. When it comes to the Imps, he didn’t roll out the same old tropes about set pieces, instead paying a glowing tribute to the side seven points clear at the top of the table.

“It was a tough, tough game against a terrific side,” he told the Rotherham Advertiser. “They have all the attributes of a winning team – their work ethic, their desire, their commitment to each other, how they play the game, they’re all outstanding.”

Not only did he think we were good, but he even said he hoped we get over the line, and earn that coveted, long-awaited spot in the Championship next season.

“They’re top of the table and deservedly so. Michael and his staff have done an unbelievable job; they’ve put together a brilliant group of players. Good luck to them, I hope they get over the line.”

So do I, Lee, so do I. Also, for the first time since Paul Warne left, I can honestly say I wish Rotherham United all the best as well.
