Another Lincoln City Stopper Heads Out On Loan – Play-Off Battle Awaits

Young Lincoln City goalkeeper Jaden Taylor has joined Hucknall Town on loan as he continues his development in senior football.

The 17-year-old heads to the United Counties League Premier Division North side after an earlier work experience spell with Pinchbeck United, giving him another opportunity to gain valuable men’s football experience away from the Academy set-up.

Taylor gets next senior step

The young keeper has been a familiar name within the Academy for some time, and this latest move looks like another sensible step in his progress. Hucknall confirmed that Taylor is arriving primarily as cover for Alfie Smith-Eccles, who is unavailable for a couple of upcoming matches, and thanked City for their help in getting the deal done over the line.

Taylor began his scholarship at Lincoln City at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, but his rise had started before then. He made the jump up to under-18 level early in the 2024/25 season and quickly nailed down a regular starting place, going on to make 15 appearances for the young Imps. That progress has continued recently, with Taylor retaining his place as City’s first-choice under-18 goalkeeper and producing some notable moments along the way, including a penalty save against Wrexham.

He was also part of the FA Youth Cup run that saw Lincoln equal a club record by reaching the fourth round, another useful marker in the young keeper’s development. Goalkeepers often need different challenges at different stages of their growth, and this move appears designed to give Taylor exposure to the demands of the senior game rather than simply more academy minutes.

Earlier loan

That has already been the pattern this season. Earlier in the campaign, Taylor linked up with Pinchbeck United on a work experience loan, a spell intended to help bridge the gap between youth football and the physical, competitive world of non-league senior matches. This latest switch to Hucknall suggests City remain keen to keep testing him in that environment.

Hucknall are well placed in the United Counties League Premier Division North table, sitting eighth and still within touching distance of the play-off places. That should give Taylor the chance to join a side playing with purpose during the closing weeks of the season, which is usually the best sort of setting for a young player learning his trade.

The Yellows, managed by Tris Whitman and playing at the RM Stadium on Aerial Way, have collected 51 points from 33 matches so far this season. They are not cut adrift from the leading pack either, sitting only nine points behind fifth-placed Belper United, albeit having played one match fewer.

For Taylor, that matters. Every loan for an Academy player should have a purpose, and this one appears to offer a clear role, competitive football and the chance to adapt again to the physical and mental demands of the men’s game.
