Peterborough already plotting key summer moves
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed parts of the club’s summer thinking, including a new left-back already lined up, positions they want to strengthen, and the likelihood of renewed interest in Matty Garbett.
MacAnthony’s social media Q and A appears to have offered supporters a fairly candid glimpse into Peterborough’s planning. According to the chairman, a left-back has already been secured on a pre-contract, a move which raises fresh questions about the futures of Rio Adebisi and Jacob Mendy. He also outlined further targets, with a replacement for Archie Collins, a reserve goalkeeper and potentially a number 10 all on the agenda.
One of the most eye-catching details concerned Garbett. MacAnthony disclosed that Peterborough turned down a £1.7 million bid from another League One club for the 23-year-old in January, and there is now an expectation that bigger clubs could test that resolve in the next window. With Garbett due to feature for New Zealand at this summer’s World Cup, his profile may only continue to rise.
Luke Williams, meanwhile, struck a more measured tone when asked about the comments, saying:
“Nothing is set in stone. They are all ideas right now.”
Still, it is clear Peterborough are already sketching out what next season might look like. That is no surprise from a club so often proactive in the market, but it does underline how quickly attention turns once the final stretch of the campaign begins.
