This Saturday, we delivered our latest Patreon live event, the Royal Ramble 2, at Tension Twisted Realities.
A Patreon-only event, effectively free for those who subscribe, we had three great segments for those in attendance, and a couple of quizzes with prizes as well. It ‘sold out’ quickly, with tickets sold and then Patreons given a free drink in return, to ensure everyone who booked came.
Tension Twisted Realities on Croft Street is a great venue we’ve used for live shows before, and will again. Stewart and the team were gracious hosts, and you should check out their other events, including Patrick Monahan stand-up, and an evening with Pasha Munro and Paul Hughes from Hunted. Big names, with us also on their roster!
We did record some of the show, with two parts going out as the podcast this weekend. The third part, a QnA, remains in the room and to be honest, I was a little worse for wear by the time we got to that stage, so best it didn’t go out!
These events are so much fun for us, and there is a great community behind the Stacey West Patreon channel. We beamed it live for those in exile, and plan to do the same again after the summer, to make it a six-monthly event. Remember, it is free, and to be there, or to watch along live, you need to be a Patreon of the site.
What is Patreon?
Patreon is like a subscription service, and while I’ve always tried to keep the Stacey West content free, it is an important part of remaining full-time. For a couple of quid a month, you get a variety of benefits. I strive to do a couple of the Dog Walk videos every week, which have always proved to be popular. There is a regular feature providing the headlines and newspaper clippings from 50 years ago, the 1975/76 season, and we’re going to be doing another season next time out.
There are these free events, which now feel like a firm staple of the Patreon offering, and the chance to put questions to us during the week. Patreons have provided questions for a number of articles recently, and I try to provide any article (within reason) suggested via our Discord.
Finally, there is the Discord channel, a thriving community which feels really welcoming. We don’t all agree – it’s not backslapping and congratulations, but there is constant chatter in there, with lots of good debate and an ever-growing community.
We’ve soft-launched a car-share function for away games, and we’re trialling some really cool live quiz software, which will allow us to do Patreon quizzes as well.
All this for £3.50 per month. There are options for £6 and £12 if you wish to contribute more, but I do keep much of the content the same. Please note, I have had to remove the ‘ad-free articles’ bit for now, as the tech has proved to be troublesome.
