‘Incredible’ – Stevenage Boss Alex Revell Reflects On Lincoln City Title Charge

Stevenage boss Alex Revell watched Lincoln City twice peg back his promotion-chasing side at the Lamex Stadium yesterday, in a game that had a more dramatic scoreline than the action suggests it should.

We weren’t able to secure the title in Hertfordshire, and now have a chance to do it at Doncaster in the rearranged game on Tuesday night. However, that didn’t stop Revell from paying tribute to our achievements.

When asked on their YouTube channel to comment on our achievements, he spoke highly of what we have done and how we’ve done it, before drawing parallels with his own side.

“Incredible. I think I spoke about it on Thursday. They’re a club that we look at with really keen eyes in terms of what they’re doing and how they recruit, and how they’ve done what they’ve done.

“What they are, again, comes down to their group. They’re a fantastic group. You can tell that from the pitch, how they keep going. They work so hard for each other in every position, very similar to us. I think in terms of club, style and budget, there are similarities.

“We absolutely need to learn from what they’re doing, but clubs are also looking at us in terms of how we work and what we’re doing. So let’s appreciate what we’re doing as well, because we’re in a fantastic position.”

Revell, once a transfer target for Danny Cowley during his Imps spell, felt his side did enough to win the game, but in the end, a late Rob Street strike settled things for the Imps. The Stevenage boss feels that the late strike was typical of our success this season.

“That’s why they’re top. That’s why they’re going up. They keep going to the end, and what they do is score off two mistakes today, and that’s it, really.

“I thought today every single one of our players deserves huge credit for the way they reacted to Tuesday. The journey that we had, everything about it was a top performance in terms of everything we ask of them, but also once we scored that second goal, I saw real confidence and belief in them, and we moved the ball in the second half.

“Yes, they had long balls going in, but I didn’t really feel threatened at all. But you make mistakes, and you get punished by good teams.”

Stevenage now go on hunting a place in the top six, and hopefully (for them) the Championship. We head to Doncaster knowing our place in the second tier is secure, but hunting a fourth trophy in seven years, after previously winning four in 68 years.
