Michael Skubala has been named League One Manager of the Season after a superb campaign with Lincoln City.

The Imps boss picked up the award at the EFL Awards in London, capping an outstanding season at Sincil Bank. He saw off strong competition, including two other managers who overachieved, Graham Alexander and Alex Revell. Brian Barry-Murphy made up the quartet, of which Michael was adjudged to be the best.

In addition to securing promotion to the Championship, Michael has also collected the Manager of the Month award three times during the campaign. He has overseen a remarkable run of form, with City currently unbeaten in 26 matches.

Michael paid tribute to the players and staff around him as he collected the prestigious award.

“They’ve been a sensational group of players to work with every day,” he said.

“I’m so privileged to have a group of players that work so hard for the shirt. The city’s buzzing, but we’re still trying to push.

“We know we’ve got Brian (Barry-Murphy) and Cardiff on our tails for that title, so we still want to push for that title as well.”

He also mentioned the support he has from above, the perfect alignment of support and backing which has helped create such a good culture at the club.

“I’ve got a pretty special board and owners who help every day. I’ve got a special leadership team in Liam Scully and Jez George that support everything we do.

“Then from myself to the football department and to the players, you can see the club’s really aligned.”

In a touching moment, he also told how he was looking forward to a rest over the summer, spending time with his family before attacking the Championship.

“I’m looking forward to a rest first because I think family, kids take a lot of toll. You know, my wife and the kids miss me a lot.

“I’m actually looking forward to seeing them because, again, every manager knows how much goes into this job. It’s a privilege, but it’s not a normal job.”

The evening has proven to be a memorable one for the club, with further recognition for the squad. George Wickens, Sonny Bradley, Jack Moylan and Tendayi Darikwa were all named in the League One Team of the Year, highlighting the impact of City’s key performers across the season.
