Lincoln City are already enjoying a standout evening at the EFL Awards, with four Imps named in the League One Team of the Year.
While the Manager of the Year and Player of the Year are still up for grabs, we already know four of our players are in the Team of the Year.
George Wickens, Sonny Bradley, Jack Moylan and captain Tendayi Darikwa were all selected in the division’s best XI, underlining the strength and balance that have driven City’s campaign. Each has played a pivotal role, with three packing more than 40 starts, and Jack impressing despite missing a couple of months with injury.
There could yet be further cause for celebration, with Michael Skubala shortlisted for the League One Manager of the Year award after an exceptional campaign in charge at the bank. Having already collected the Manager of the Month award on three occasions this term, his impact has been clear to see.
Promotion has been the headline achievement, but the manner in which it has been secured has also drawn attention. City’s current unbeaten run, now stretching to 26 matches, highlights the consistency and resilience built under Skubala’s guidance.
Some might wonder about the omission of Conor McGrandles, a player sure to clean up in the Supporters’ Player of the Season, and perhaps the final one of three outfield players with 40+ starts who has formed the bedrock of the side, none of whom have let the club down.
Off the pitch, there was also recognition for Alan Long, the club’s supporter liaison officer and matchday announcer, who was nominated for the Club Employee of the Year award. He didn’t win, sadly, but it was great to see a stalwart of the club nominated, and a man I am proud to call my friend.
Will I be needed by the keyboard for the Manager of the Year and Player of the Year announcement? My gut feeling is yes, and no, but we shall see!
