Championship Latest: Portsmouth Braced For Midfielder Interest, Stoke City Boss On Summer Plans

As we look ahead to joining the Championship, I’ll take the opportunity to bring you updates from the second tier, all the latest news as we progress through the summer.

Pompey braced for Devlin interest after Wrexham bid

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has admitted it will be difficult to keep Terry Devlin, with serious competition expected for the 22-year-old this summer.

Devlin has enjoyed an outstanding campaign at Fratton Park, earning player of the season recognition and attracting attention after Wrexham made a £2m move for him in January.

The Northern Ireland international is under contract until 2028, giving Portsmouth a strong position, but Mousinho acknowledged the club may eventually have to consider a sale as part of their player trading model.

“I think it probably will be, I’ll be surprised if we don’t have to ward off some interest in Terry.
“He’s turned himself into an excellent Championship right-back.

“Terry will obviously give credit outwardly and point at the development he’s had at the football club. Ultimately though, he’s been a pleasure to develop and he’s been easy to work with.

“He keeps his head down and works hard. Technically his improvement has been astounding, physically his improvement has been astounding. There is only one person in that equation who can make that happen, and that’s Terry.

“I’ll be surprised if we’re not warding off some serious competition for him.”

Mousinho made clear Portsmouth are not pushing Devlin towards the exit door, but said the club must be realistic if a major offer arrives.
